MLB Has its First Trade Since Unfreezing Transactions
Jeff Passan reported an MLB trade a few hours ago, officially signaling that baseball is back. There was even a player to be named later.
Here’s how you know baseball is back: We’ve got a trade — and a player to be named later!
The San Diego Padres are acquiring middle infielder Jorge Mateo from the Oakland A’s for a PTBNL, sources tell me and @kileymcd.

San Diego acquired Jorge Mateo from Oakland for a player to be named later. Mateo is legit. He was a Baseball America Top 100 prospect from 2016-18 and ripped up Triple-A last year with Las Vegas (.289 BA, .834 OPS). In 119 games with Aviators, he led the entire minor leagues in triples (14) while adding 29 doubles, 19 home runs, and 24 stolen bases. Mateo was selected for the 2019 All-Star Futures Game.
Mateo originally came up with the Yankees before being sent to Oakland in the deal for Sonny Gray.
