Mod Sun Bares Soul on Addiction in YouTube Video
Rapper Mod Sun, who celebrated 100 days clean of alcohol and hard drugs, has decided to bare his soul on addition in a new YouTube video. The video, which runs a full 46 minutes, touches on several subjects. From his upbringing, his time as the drummer in Four Letter Lie, his body image issues and relationship with megastar Bella Thorne, Mod (real name Derek Smith) tells his full truth in the video and provides a year-by-year account of his trip into serious drug addiction. Like most, Mod started with pot and alcohol, which then escalated to cocaine and eventually lean.
“I was getting eight balls of cocaine from [age] 25 to 108 days ago. So for about six years, I was getting an eight-ball every other day,” Mod revealed in the video.
The video is profound and a must-watch for fans of the rapper or anyone struggling with addiction. He even talks about being on stage regularly thinking about how he was going to score.
“I would be on stage thinking about how I was going to score drugs,” he said. “And how I’m going to be able to get fucked up before I do my meet-and-greet or try to drink an entire bottle of whiskey on stage in front of people because I thought that was me. I thought that was me, man. And I’m sorry for all of that.”
Mod currently has a song — “I Remember Way Too Much” — in rotation on radio, which has turned out to be one of his biggest hits yet. You can follow Mod Sun on Twitter here.
Keep going, Mod.
(It should be noted that the video was recorded in the “Jim Morrison Room” at Alta Cienega hotel in West Hollywood.)
