Movie Ticket War: MoviePass Fired Some Serious Twitter Shots At AMC’s New Monthly Service
Welp, it looks like the Movie Ticket War has officially started. In one corner, MoviePass. The other, AMC Theatres.
Earlier today, MoviePass fired some healthy shots on Twitter in the direction of AMC. MoviePass, the most well-known company in terms of movie ticket subscriptions, heard that AMC will offer their own service and felt some sort of way. The service from MoviePass has been underway for some time now while AMC’s is set to kick off on June 26th. For what it’s worth, MoviePass didn’t @ AMC in any of their tweets, although I’m sure it’ll reach them eventually.

So which subscription is really better?
Well, it depends on what you value.
Some would say that AMC has more brand trust than MoviePass. The movie theater chain has been in business for almost 100 years while MoviePass was founded in 2011. On top of that, the stock price of MoviePass fell below a dollar per share recently because, per Deadline, analysts found the “company’s business plan risky”. Now, they’re looking to re-structure to avoid being taken off the board by NASDAQ. If a stock trades below $1 for 30 consecutive days, they open themselves up for delisting.
With that said, MoviePass has a better value — which they pointed out in their tweets. Their service is $9.95/mo at several theatres, and you can see a new film EVERY day. AMC, on the other hand, allows three movies per week for $19.95/mo at their locations only.
So if you trust that MoviePass will stay in business, they’re your service. Or, if you want to worry as little as possible, AMC is the way to go. They are, after all, a stable and respected company.
All I know is that if MoviePass does go under, these tweets will look awfully crummy. At that point, though, it might not matter anymore.
