Ovechkin, Holtby Continue Stanley Cup Celebration With Fallon Appearance

In the same way that Fox owns the NFL and CBS owns college basketball, NBC owns the National Hockey League. So it should come as no surprise that the league’s newest champions, the Washington Capitals, will appear on the network’s flagship late-night show, The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon. In a press release from the NHL, the news was announced that the team’s two highest-profile players, Alex Ovechkin and Braden Holtby, will hit Fallon for a few laughs on Monday evening.

The Caps took home their first Stanley Cup on Thursday evening after winning the last four games in the 2018 Stanley Cup Finals. The team they beat, Vegas, won the first game 6-4 but were outscored 16-8 in the final four games.

Ovechkin earned the Conn Smythe Trophy for the most valuable player in the 2018 Stanley Cup Playoffs while Holtby went 16-7 in goal during the Caps’ playoff run. Holtby started 22-of-24 games between the pipes for Washington and earned all of the team’s victories. Ovi scored a team-high 15 goals including two game-winners.

The appearance will be the latest stop on the team’s post-win campaign. Ovi has been the highlight so far, literally turning up everywhere. Among others, Ovechkin has been spotted with the cup at Nationals Park, in the middle of Georgetown doing keg stands, and manning the grill singing Queen’s “We Are The Champions”.

Monday’s episode of The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon is set to start at 11:35 P.M ET.
