Netflix’s ‘Love’ Stole A Page Out of the ‘This Is Us’ Playbook
Netflix just dropped the third season of Love on March 8th, 2018. The series, created by Judd Apatow, holds a 94 percent rating on Rotten Tomatoes and has seen its fair share of star-power since debuting in 2016.
Among the many familiar faces appearing in the show’s first two seasons, Daniel Stern, Andy Dick, and David Spade are probably the most notable. And when season three came out, another familiar sight popped up in the first episode: a long-sleeve Pittsburgh Steelers t-shirt jersey.
Of course, the long-sleeve jersey has gained popularity over the last few years on This Is Us. Mandy Moore’s character, Rebecca Pearson, has busted it out on a few occasions (including the infamous housefire episode) to show her character’s Pittsburgh fanaticism. Below, you can see the No. 12 Terry Bradshaw jersey.
In Love, Gillian Jacob’s character, Mickey Dobbs, rocks pretty much the same long-sleeve jersey in Season Three’s premiere. Same vintage look, same era, just a different player from the 1970’s Steelers’ dynasty — No. 32 Franco Harris.
It might have been a nod to the show, it may not have been. My guess is that it was a combination of a nod to This Is Us and Gillian Jacobs wanting to show some love to her actual hometown — she was born and raised in Pittsburgh.
