Eminem Brings Up MGK, Tyler the Creator Again on New Album
With midnight approaching on the East Coast Thursday night, plenty of people, including myself, were waiting for Mac Miller’s new album, Circles, to drop. Little did we know that another prominent white rapper had an album of his own coming at 12:01 P.M ET. Eminem dropped a surprise album, Music to Be Murdered By, early Friday morning, taking social media and the hip-hop world at large by storm.
And, although he didn’t go at other rappers’ necks with the frequency of his last album, Kamikaze, the new project has its fair share of name-drops and zingers. Notably, Eminem referenced some of his most talked-about shots from Kamikaze on Music to Be Murdered By.
MGK
On the album’s second track — “Unaccommodating” — Em brings some closure to his beef with MGK, a back-and-forth that started on “Not Alike” from his Kamikaze album.
“But when they ask me is the war finished with MGK? Of course it is,
I cleansed him of his mortal sins, I’m God and the Lord forgives even the devil worshippers”
-Eminem on “Unaccommodating”
Calling himself “God” is obviously a reference to his Rap God moniker, while his forgiveness to “devil worshippers” alludes to MGK’s diss track towards Eminem, “Rap Devil.”
All the way down the tracklist at No. 10 — “Yah, Yah” featuring Q-Tip, Black Thought, dEnAun & Royce da 5’9’’ — Eminem finds another spot to mention MGK, this time referring to the Cleveland rapper as his son.
Me and this game, we got married already,
Had the prenup ready, fuck daughter, should’ve seen her belly,
She barely was three months pregnant,
Bitch had to give me a baby, we named it Machine Gun Kelly
-Eminem on “Yah, Yah”
Tyler, the Creator & Earl Sweatshirt
On track No. 18, Em brings up his controversial shot towards Tyler, the Creator and Earl Sweatshirt from Kamikaze‘s lead single, “Fall,” while also hinting (again) at his beef with MGK.
For some adversaries, I carry big guns,
So some targets’ll get the kill shot,
Some, I just barely nicked ’em,
I can make a mistake and erupt and end up takin’ a dump
Or sayin’ some dumb shit, thinkin’ I run shit,
Misplacin’ my anger enough to give Earl and Tyler, The Creator the bruntÂ
-Eminem on “No Regrets”
The target that got “the kill shot” was MGK…on “Killshot,” while Em seems contrite a moment later about the slur he used toward Tyler, the Creator on Kamikaze.
Joe Budden
Em had a love tap for Budden on Kamikaze‘s “Fall,” then another one on “Killshot” a few weeks later. On Music to Be Murdered By, he didn’t go directly at the popular podcast host and retired rapper, though. Instead, he called on a Slaughterhouse reunion without Budden on “I Will,” the 18th track on the album. Ouch.
