NFL Completion Percentage: All Four Rookie QBs at the Bottom
All four rookie QBs from the 2018 NFL Draft are at the bottom of the league in completion percentage through Week 6.
Maybe more NFL teams should consider the Tony Romo, Aaron Rodgers, Patrick Mahomes method and let their rookie quarterbacks sit and learn for a few years. Maybe not, since guys like Andrew Luck were lights out off the bat, but it should be noted that all four rookie quarterbacks — Josh Allen, Sam Darnold, Baker Mayfield, and Josh Rosen — are near the bottom of the league in completion percentage.
Of the 34 qualified NFL QBs who make up the list, Darnold is the highest at No. 29 — yeah, No. 29 is the highest. Baker Mayfield and Josh Rosen are tied at No. 31 and Josh Allen is at No. 33. The only guy worse than Allen is Tyrod Taylor (No. 34). Additionally, they’re all under 60 percent, with Taylor and Jimmy Garoppolo being the only other two signal callers under the mark.
According to ESPN, “to qualify, a player must have at least 14 attempts per team’s games played.”
Bottom 10 QBs in Completion Percentage Through Week 6:
No. 25: C.J. Beathard (62.6%)
No. 26: Joe Flacco (62.1%)
No. 27: Dak Prescott (62%)
No. 28: Blake Bortles (61.2%)
No. 29: Sam Darnold (59.8%)
No. 30: Jimmy Garoppolo (59.6%)
T-No. 31: Baker Mayfield (55.6%)
T-No. 31: Josh Rosen (55.6%)
No. 33: Josh Allen (54.0%)
No. 34: Tyrod Taylor (48.8%)
Sort of surprising, but I think the way they’re ranked here is how they will rank 10 years from now. Darnold, in my opinion, is the best among them.
Rosen, it should be noted, hasn’t had much help from his receivers and without SEVERAL dropped passes, he would be higher.
