NFL TV Ratings: $200 NFL Sunday Ticket Discount For Students Will Help

The NFL is looking to bring in younger viewers with a monster NFL Sunday Ticket student discount. This strategy could definitely help the NFL TV ratings for 2018.

I’m not sure if this was available in the past but college students are eligible for a huge NFL Sunday Ticket discount. Instead of paying the normal $73.49 per month, students at eligible two and four-year institutions can get the service for just $24.99. That’s a 66-percent discount or $48.50 off per month. In total, a student will save $194 during the four-month stretch.

Obviously, this is a great deal and obviously, this is a plan to keep young fans engaged. Over the last few years, the National Football League has lost millions of viewers. In 2015, the NFL had a decade-high 17.9 million average viewers, per a 2017 report by Business Insider. From there, that same report showed a drop to 16.5 in 2016 and 14.8 in 2017. Additionally, their average viewer age has gone from 44 in 2000 to 50 in 2016, per Market Watch.

At the same time, the NBA and MLS picked up steam with in the younger demo. The report by Market Watch showed that the NBA (42 years old) and MLS (40 years old) have the two lowest average viewer ages.

You’ve gotta give some credit for the league’s effort, at least in this situation. I’m sure plenty of students will take advantage of the rockin’ deal. Frankly, I wish it was around back in the day. There were a lot of Sunday afternoons where we had to watch the local games instead of some of the better matchups.
