NY Mets Sign (Another) College Quarterback
The New York Mets officially have a thing for quarterbacks. Better yet, they have a thing for dual-threat quarterbacks. The whole Tim Tebow thing is still going on (better than I expected) and they just added another — former South Carolina and Cal quarterback Brandon Mcllwain. While McIlwain wasn’t the same QB as Tebow, he did play actually baseball in college.
McIlwain was signed as an undrafted free agent, though had the draft gone 40 rounds like usual he probably would have been drafted. McIlwain, after all, was taken in the 26th round last year by the Miami Marlins after his best season on the diamond (16-for-63, two home runs in 21 games with Cal).
Altogether, the 6-foot-1 outfielder/quarterback played both sports at both schools, with his time at Cal resulting in more success on both fronts.
