Orioles Legend Adam Jones Signs With D-Backs

Baltimore Orioles legend Adam Jones signed a contract to play with the Arizona Diamondbacks.

For the first time in over a decade, outfielder Adam Jones will wear an MLB jersey that’s not black and orange. According to ESPN’s Jeff Passan, the longtime Orioles will be a member of the Arizona Diamondbacks in 2019, signing a one-year deal worth $3 million.

Jones arrived in Baltimore in 2008 via trade and was a mainstay in center field until the end of the 2018 season. He recorded 1,781 hits and 263 home runs while playing for the Orioles, making five All-Star games in the process.

Last year, he hit .281 at the plate with 15 home runs for Baltimore, notably nixing a trade over the summer that would have sent him to Philadelphia.

Arizona just missed the postseason last year but is firmly in contention for a playoff spot this year. Jones will join an outfield in the desert that includes Jarrod Dyson, David Peralta, Ketel Marte, and Steven Souza Jr.

For Jones, I’m happy that he’s going to a contender as his career winds down. That said, the $3 million price tag is a bargain — I’m surprised he didn’t have teams knocking his door down for that price.

According to ESPN’s report, Fox Sports first reported the news.
