Orioles Week From Hell: A Statistical Breakdown
When Trey Mancini got clocked with a 95-mph fastball, square on the elbow, it proved that the Baltimore Orioles were truly in a week from hell. Mancini, the only consistent hitter on the active roster, was in substantial pain, holding his elbow as if it were broken. Fans feared the worst, of course, and they had every reason to; it looked and sounded much nastier than the average MLB hit-by-pitch and everything else related to the O’s recently has wound up with unfavorable results.
Over the last week, the O’s haven’t won a game, bringing their current losing streak to eight and their season record to 23-51. What’s worse is that most games haven’t been close, three were absolute demolitions and a foursome of regular starters have combined for a measly five hits in sixty-one at-bats. Altogether, the last seven days of Orioles baseball — stretched across three different series — has produced some eye-poppingly poor stats, most of which are the worst in baseball for the given time-frame.
