HBO: ‘Paterno’ Trailer Drops, Pacino Regains Old Form
HBO dropped the trailer for Paterno, their newest venture into the world of film, on Friday.
It is the second of the three HBO original movies slated to come out in the early portion of 2018, the first of which was Notes from the Field.
Here’s the trailer:
Based on all-too-recent-but-true events, Paterno is about the unveiling of the nefarious, sickening actions of Jerry Sandusky and the fallout that followed, both for Penn State and legendary coach Joe Paterno.
Children were taken advantage of sexually, emotionally, and intellectually, and people just let it continue to happen.
With enough information at their disposal, Penn State ad the powers that be chose a football program and the legacy of a coach over justice.
And then it all came crashing down.
Honestly, it isn’t even something I like writing about.
To think deeply about the specifics of what happened is to wallow in the depravity of humanity.
The wounds of those affected by Sandusky and the cover-up by Paterno and Penn State are still fresh, so for a large segment of people in the country, even those Penn State supporters who feel betrayed, it will be a difficult film to watch.
Paterno is the second HBO film by Barry Levison (Rain Man), following the successful Wizard of Lies.
The titular character is being played by acting legend Al Pacino, former star who has been… Well… Let’s just say he has seen better days.
After years of dismal choices like The Pirates of Somalia, Hangman, and Misconduct, Pacino will be put into positions to win back over the favor of the viewing world for the first time in a long time.
Known for his fiery overacting, the role of Joe Paterno will allow Pacino to transform himself and display all of the anger and pride that eventually led to the downfall.
The next portion of Al Pacino’s career is off to an interesting start.
He’ll be starting off 2018 with Paterno on HBO before Netflix unveils the highly anticipated Martin Scorsese-directed The Irishman, starring Robert DeNiro, Joe, Pesci, and Pacino, in 2019.
Paterno will premier on HBO on April 7.
