Phillies, Mets To Play In Second MLB Little League Classic In Williamsport, PA
Last year, the Pittsburgh Pirates and St. Louis Cardinals played a regular season game in Williamsport, PA during the Little League World Series. The game, which Pittsburgh won 6-3, was known as the MLB Little League Classic — the first of its kind. ESPN broadcast the game nationally and after it was over, the two MLB teams shook hands just like Little League teams. The whole experience was awesome. Even their jerseys looked like the Little League variety.
This year, another Pennsylvania team will have their crack at historic Bowman Field: the Philadelphia Phillies. They’ll take on the New York Mets in what will be the second annual event.
Hopefully, Pennsylvania teams playing in the MLB Little League Classic will be like the Cowboys and Lions playing on Thanksgiving.
Before the event — which is to take place on Sunday, August 19th at 7:00 P.M ET — the major leaguers will hang out with the little leaguers and their families. Then, they’ll host them at BB&T Ballpark at Historic Bowman Field. Justifiably, the game is not open to the public.
ESPN will also broadcast this year’s event, with the Phillies serving as the home team.
The Williamsport Crosscutters — a Phillies Single-A affiliate — normally play at Bowman Field.
