PHOTOS/RECAP: George Mason A-10 Tournament Win Over GW
George Mason beat rival George Washington 61-57 on Thursday in the second round of the Atlantic 10 Tournament. They’ll now play fourth-seeded St. Bonaventure in the quarterfinals on Friday at 2:30 P.M ET. The game will be broadcast nationally on NBC Sports Network.
Justin Kier, this year’s Most Improved Player in the Atlantic 10, led all scorers with 26 points, doing so on an ultra-efficient 10-for-14 shooting night. Kier, in addition to his prolific shooting from the floor, made all five of his free throws and added eight rebounds and five assists.
Otis Livingston II was the only other George Mason player in double figures, scoring 12, but it came on 16 shot attempts. In total, the senior shot just 25 percent from the field.
In addition to his rough shooting, Livingston II uncharacteristically missed a few clutch free throws down the stretch. Luckily, after Livingston II missed the front end of a 1-in-1 with 14 seconds remaining, Javon Greene grabbed an offensive board and drew a foul. Up by three at that point, Greene hit both free throws to make it a two-possession game.

For George Washington, Armel Potter led the way with 12 points, while Justin Mazzulla added 10 of his own.
By beating the Colonials, George Mason has now gone 3-0 over George Washington in the last two months. In addition to their win in the conference tournament, the Patriots beat GW 62-55 on January 26th at Eagle Bank Arena and 81-65 on March 9th at the Charles E. Smith Center.
