Radford Basketball Pulls Epic 3OT Comeback Win Over Campbell
Despite trailing Campbell 61-47 on the road with less than eight minutes to play in regulation, the Radford basketball program continued their perfect month with a thrilling 97-91 victory. It wasn’t easy by any stretch; in fact, it took three extra periods and several clutch buckets. Freshman Fah’Mir Ali was responsible for multiple, including game-tying three balls near the end of regulation and the second overtime period. In total, Ali finished with 12 points and a game-high nine assists.
Radford, who trailed 36-25 at halftime, held the Fighting Camels to just five points in the final 7:30. Down 66-63 with less than 30 seconds left, Ali used a screen at the top of the key to sink the trey that would send them to overtime and eventually their eighth conference win.

In the first OT, junior Josiah Jeffers took over, scoring seven of the team’s 11 points. His layup with 49 seconds left tied the game 77-77 and was the last bucket of the period. The second OT was more of a defensive affair, but if not for another heroic three by Ali with 37 seconds remaining, all would have been lost. His three tied the game 83-83 and brought the game to a third overtime. Coming into the game, this year’s Radford team hadn’t played a single overtime period.
Xavier Lipscomb saved his first bucket for a perfect spot to start the third overtime. He nailed a three from the corner to put Radford up 86-85 and they didn’t trail the rest of the way. What’s more, it got him going. He confidently converted an and-one on the Highlanders next possession to give them a semi-comfortable 89-85 lead. They played good defense down the stretch against an outmanned Campbell team, and had their win punctuated with an impressive one-legged free-throw from senior Bryan Hart, who was injured when he was fouled.

Five other Radford players finished in double figures besides Ali; Dravon Mangum led Radford with 16 points, Jeffers and Lewis Djonkam both had 15, Shaquan Jules added 14 and Chyree Walker had a 10-point, 13-rebound double-double.

The win for Radford (9-6, 8-1) gave them a perfect 5-0 record since the start of the new year. They trail only Winthrop (14-0, 11-0) for the best record in the Big South.
Both teams will have to rest up tonight because they’re back at it tomorrow — same time, same channel.
