Ranking All 8 XFL Logos & Nicknames
On the heels of the disastrous AAF experiment (or Alliance of American Football), the XFL is getting ready for their (sort of) inaugural season in 2020. Owned by Vince McMahon, the XFL shouldn’t run into the financial problems the AAF did, and deals with ABC/ESPN and Fox Sports add an extra note of legitimacy that every alternative league desperately needs to get off the ground.
The league is going to be eight teams deep, with franchises in Washington, D.C., St. Louis, Houston, Dallas, Seattle, New York, and Tampa Bay. All eight cities have (or recently had) NFL franchises, unlike the AAF which had several second-tier cities making up their league.
On August 21st, the official logos and nicknames were announced for the XFL, which you can see below. Generally, the problem with logos in alternative leagues is that they look like that of a flag football or softball team. With the XFL, there’s still some of that, yet, some are really, really legit looking. We’re going to rank them from No. 8 down to No. 1. If you feel differently, feel free to chime in to tell us about it!

Ranking All 8 XFL Logos & Nicknames
#8: Tampa Bay Vipers
The cheesiest of the bunch, in my opinion, but snakes suck any way you slice it.
#7: Seattle Dragons
What Seattle really needs is a pro basketball team, not another football team that looks like UAB.
#6: St. Louis BattleHawks
The logo is really cool and the colors are classic but they should have tried to reel some of the remaining St. Louis Rams fans in with their colors/theme.Â
#5: New York Guardians
The Kevin Gilbride-led Guardians should be named the Gargoyles because that’s what their logo looks like, but it’s still pretty dope nonetheless.
#4: LA Wildcats
The colors (orange/red) chosen for the LA Wildcats make their logo pop, yet it’s not overdone, which is definitely a plus.
#3: Dallas Renegades
Football in Dallas is as American as it gets and the Renegades rig features colors similar to the Cowboys. You can’t go wrong with that.
#2: D.C. Defenders
Less is more, and that’s what the Defenders have with their logo/color scheme.
#1: Houston Roughnecks
The Roughnecks logo pays homage to the old Houston Oilers logo and it’s by far the best of the bunch.
