Reds Ryan Lavarnway Homers Twice After 1,426 Days Without One

Back on August 23rd, 2015, Barack Obama was still POTUS, Game of Thrones was filming their sixth season, and Ryan Lavarnway was busy hitting a meaningless home run for the Atlanta Braves in a 9-3 loss to the Chicago Cubs.

It was the last time Lavarnway would homer until Friday night, when, unbelievably, he hit two home runs and drove in six runs for the Cincinnati Reds.

For those counting at home, that’s 1,426 days between homers.

Oh yeah, did I mention it was his first game of the 2019 season? And his first game with the Reds? Unreal.

The journeyman catcher didn’t play in the bigs at all in 2016, then in 2017 and 2018, he played 12 games total (for Oakland & Pittsburgh, respectively).

Let’s hear it for Mr. Lavarnway.

Cincinnati lost 12-11 to St. Louis, unfortunately.
