Report: No Plans to Release NCAA Tournament Bracket

There have been rumblings about the NCAA releasing a bracket for the NCAA Tournament despite the fact it won’t be played. It sounds a bit strange but it would be awesome. I mean, it would be awesome for a team like Rutgers who hasn’t made the Big Dance since 1991. They would be included in the bracket and at least they can say they officially broke their dry spell.

Unfortunately, it may not be playing out that way.

David Worlock, the media coordinator for the NCAA Tournament, told ESPN that they have “no plans to do that” on Friday.

“We hardly started the process,” he continued. “The priority for committee members then was to return home to tend to affairs on campus or conference offices.”

At the very least, it would be a nice consolation for some teams, and it doesn’t seem like it would take too much effort. A few people on a conference call or in an isolated place. Boom.

On the possibility of being named without actually playing, Rutgers coach Steve Pikiell wasn’t exactly pushing for it when asked by NJ.com.

“Our players are all home now,’’ he said. “When they do that (bracket draw) you want your team around you.’’

“Next year we’ll have to have the same kind of year in the best league in the country. That’ll be the challenge. But whether we’re in it this year or next year, the question is going to be asked every year.”

That said, he also told them his team was “1,000 percent in” this year’s 68-team pool.
