RG3 Re-Signs With Baltimore Ravens
For the first time in years, Robert Griffin III will be on the same roster for two consecutive seasons. Griffin, who appeared in two games last year for the Baltimore Ravens, is back with Baltimore as the backup to Lamar Jackson.
Eric DeCosta, Baltimore’s GM, announced on Thursday that the team had agreed in principle to a two-year deal with RG3. Griffin, according to the Baltimore Ravens official website, still needs to pass a physical.
Bringing RG3 back into the mix makes sense because his game mirrors what Lamar Jackson does. Griffin, in my opinion, is a better passer but they both run the ball well and if Jackson goes down, the gameplan won’t have to change much.
Additionally, RG3 has proven his worth off the field.
According to NFL.com’s Kevin Patra, Griffin “was a stellar mentor” to Jackson and “a key part of the QB room.”
Still shy of 30, RG3 has good football left in him. He was competent last season in the few spots he was needed and it’s clear he’s been humbled over the last few seasons. During last year’s preseason, the Heisman Trophy winner put up an 87.8 quarterback rating in four appearances.
For his career, he has an 88.2 quarterback rating with 42 touchdown passes, 26 interceptions, and 10 rushing touchdowns.
