Say Goodbye to Miami Marlins Home Run…Thing
New Miami Marlins owner Derek Jeter finally got his way with the home run sculpture beyond the centerfield fence.
Some parks have cool home run traditions — you know, the rising apple at Citi Field or the dude going down the slide at Miller Park. The Miami Marlins have a home run tradition, too, but it’s not cool, like at all. Luckily, Derek Jeter finally got his way and it’s headed outside the stadium.
“The Miami Marlins won county permission on Tuesday to move its home-run sculpture out of Marlins Park to the plaza outside . . . In its new location outside, “Homer” will still turn on for home runs, as well as at the end of every home win and every day at 3:05 p.m., an homage to Miami’s original area code.”
While Jeter got a lot of flack for tearing down a somewhat-competitive team before the 2018 MLB season, this is definitely a win for him, and the Marlins.
