Seahawks Fantasy Football Impact Post Josh Gordon Signing
Fortunately for the Seahawks, Josh Gordon is a talented and dynamic playmaker. Unfortunately for your fantasy team, this further muddies the already daunting task of deciphering the week-to-week fantasy value of any Seattle wide receiver.
The Seahawks are 6-2 right now. They haven’t scored more than 33 points in a game, yet they have only scored less than 27 points once and that was in Week 1. Those are some miraculously-uniform point totals and Russell Wilson is largely the reason why. Wilson currently has the third-highest QBR (79.6) in the NFL.
Despite all that, predicting the fantasy value of their receivers on any given week has proven to be a fool’s errand. Tyler Lockett is the exception, though. Lockett is the WR10 in PPR leagues right now and has the highest catch rate of any receiver in the NFL (85 percent). Beyond Lockett, the Seahawks WR unit has been tricky and with Gordon on board, it’ll get even trickier.
On paper, it appears the Josh Gordon signing will negatively impact the fantasy values of Lockett and D.K. Metcalf, who has played 50+ snaps in each of the last four weeks. Couple that with the Seahawks’ affinity for running the football — Chris Carson ranked No. 2 in rushing attempts this season — and it’s looking like Gordon himself is a low-ceiling, low-floor bench option.
Gordon does boost Russell Wilson’s already-high fantasy value (QB2), however. Wilson has the highest passer rating this season (115.5), thanks to his unbelievable 17-to-1 touchdown-to-interception rate, and the fourth-highest yards per attempt (8.5).
Wilson owners, rejoice. Lockett, Metcalf and Gordon owners, wait it out.
As for Jaron Brown, who’s emerged over the last three weeks with his two best fantasy outputs, please consider no longer being a Jaron Brown owner. The same can be said for David Moore if you’ve had to reach that far into the barrel.
