Sports Media Guru Richard Deitsch Leaves SI, Joins The Athletic and Sportsnet 590
Richard Deitsch is probably the most notable Sports Media reporter in the country. He’s been reporting for Sports Illustrated for the last two decades, specializing in women’s sports, the Olympics, and of course, Sports Media.
On Monday, though, Deitsch announced he’d be the next writer moving over to The Athletic, a site that’s completely flipped the sportswriting world on its ear. Among others, The Athletic already boasts some of the biggest names in the industry like Ken Rosenthal, Seth Davis, Ken Pomeroy, and Jeff Pearlman.
Thrilled to announce I'm joining The Athletic starting late next week. I'll be covering sports media & hopefully some women's hoops too. Take a look at some of the great work the staff is doing and here's a special promo code for 30% off the annual plan: https://t.co/XdnsnYuBNB

The announcement comes just a few weeks after Deitsch joined Toronto’s Sportsnet 590 as a radio host. In the official press release from Sportsnet, it said Deitsch would be permanently relocating to Toronto.
When I read about his move to Toronto, I knew something else was up.
So I asked Richard if he’d be continuing his popular Sports Media podcast (which is on the SI platform) — he assured me that it would roll on.
Yes sir.

What he didn’t say was with whom he’d be doing the podcast. And after the latest news, it’s obviously not Sports Illustrated. Deitsch elaborated on his podcast plans today, stating it would “return in a couple of weeks”. As for the host, he said he’d be “starting from scratch” so I’d imagine it’ll be on The Athletic.
The podcast will return in a couple of weeks. Same content as before including roundtables. You'll have to resubscribe because we'll be starting from scratch on the sub list. (Please do!) More details to come in the next couple of weeks. Thanks for the interest. https://t.co/Avj2MuoTXR

On his way out the door, Deitsch posted a heartfelt message on Facebook about his time at SI. He was sure to thank pretty much everyone who helped him along the way.
