Sports Radio: Craig Carton Convicted in Ponzi Scheme
Former WFAN sports radio host Craig Carton was convicted in a multi-million dollar ponzi scheme.
For years, I listened to Craig Carton in the morning on my drive to work in Upstate New York. WFAN was the only NYC station that came in on the radio, and though he was always a little bit annoying (OK, very annoying), it was sports nonetheless. Little did I know he was scamming people out of their money to pay off his own gambling debts. On Wednesday, it all came to a head when he was convicted of conspiracy, securities fraud, and wire fraud in an NYC courtroom, according to Newsday.
Per the Newsday report:
The verdict came on the second day of deliberation after a weeklong trial on charges that Carton used deceit to raise more than $4 million to buy blocks of event tickets to be resold at a profit, and then diverted the money to pay personal expenses, gambling debts and prior investors.
While the charges could carry up to 45 years in prison, the Newsday report said “Carton’s sentence will likely be far lower.”

The Newsday report added that Carton and his lawyer “plan to appeal” the ruling.
