‘Take This Seriously’: Kyle Guy Urges People to Take COVID-19 Seriously
On Saturday afternoon, former Virginia basketball star Kyle Guy shared on Instagram that his grandfather passed away due to complications from the coronavirus. Now a guard for the Sacramento Kings, Guy urged people to take the current situation seriously. “You don’t want this to be what wakes you up,” he added.

To date, the virus has killed over 50,000 people worldwide, and there were almost 400 new cases announced in Virginia alone today.

The Kings, who picked Guy with the 55th pick in the 2019 NBA Draft, commented on Guy’s post — “We extend our deepest condolences to you and your entire family.” — as did their G-League affiliate, the Stockton Kings. Guy played two games for the NBA club this year, scoring his first NBA bucket on January 24th against the Bulls, and 37 games for the G-League club. With Stockton, he tore up the competition with several 30 and 40-point games. Overall, he averaged 21.5 points per game while shooting 41.4 percent from the field and 40 percent from beyond the arc.
Guy was the last of three Virginia players to go in the 2019 NBA Draft, following De’Andre Hunter and Ty Jerome. Together, the trio led the Wahoos to their first national title in basketball, beating Texas Tech in the championship game.
