The Good Son: Bill Simmons is Helping His Dad Gain Twitter Followers

For fans of Bill Simmons and The Ringer, you know he loves his dad and regularly features him on The Bill Simmons Podcast. Over the past month, he’s taken it to the next level by pushing his pops’ new Twitter account — @DrBill1947.

Normally, Simmons rarely @’s anyone on Twitter unless it’s business related. Yet, since Dr. Bill started tweeting in early April, ‘The Sports Guy’ has given him Twitter shoutouts left and right.

What a good son, right? I’d like to think that most of us would do the same thing for our dads if we were in Simmons’ position.

Today, BS took it up a notch by planting @DrBill1947 into his Instagram story. It’s actually how I first learned of the phenomenon.

Not surprisingly, the push has worked. Per Social Blade, Bill Simmons’ dad has gained over 16,000 followers in the last 30 days! And surprisingly, the folks on Twitter have been very nice to Dr. Bill; it would have been a shame if the trolls came out.

It’s clear: the Bill Simmons’ effect is real, folks.
