Tommy Milone Will Start Opening Day For Baltimore

All-star John Means was supposed to start Opening Day for the Baltimore Orioles this year but has been replaced by fellow leftie Tommy Milone. Means, who said he would have “laughed in your face” two years ago regarding the honor, is dealing with arm fatigue, per Joe Trezza.

Not only will it be Milone’s first time starting on Opening Day, but it will also be his first regular-season appearance in an Orioles uniform. Now in his tenth big-league season, Milone has respectable career numbers (50-47 W-L, 4.47 ERA).

Last year with Seattle, Milone made 23 appearances (including six starts) and posted a 4.76 ERA. His best stint in the bigs came as a member of the Athletics between 2012 and 2014. The 33-year old went 31-22 across 75 appearances (73 starts) with a rock-solid 3.84 ERA.

Milone will be facing Boston on Opening Day, a team he’s really struggled against throughout his career. In five starts, he’s put up a 9.26 ERA and 0-3 win-loss record.
