Trent Dilfer Hired as Head Football Coach in Tennessee
Trent Dilfer, a Super Bowl-winning quarterback and one-time ESPN football analyst, has been hired as the head coach of a high school football program in Tennessee.
The school, Lipscomb Academy, is a private Christian institution in Nashville, TN.
Per Lipscomb’s official press release:
“My family and I are honored to be part of the Lipscomb community, and we believe that God has led us specifically to this community at this time,” said Dilfer. The commitment Lipscomb Academy is making to build a premier football program is humbling and energizing but most importantly it’s foundation is in building players into servants of Christ. I am fully invested in using the vehicle of football to teach the young people in our program to chase their human potential relentlessly. We will be great in football, but more importantly, our football program will represent what is best in this great city of Nashville.”
Although he hasn’t formally been a head coach at any school since retiring from the NFL, Dilfer is definitely qualified for the job. He played 130 NFL games, won a Super Bowl, and has been the head coach of the Elite 11 football camp for several years. On top of all that, he’s been fantastic in the media as a football analyst, breaking down offense and quarterback play better than almost anyone.
Trent Dilfer worked for ESPN for a long time before getting laid off in 2017. Since ESPN, he’s regularly made appearances on the biggest podcasts in the sports world, highlighted by The Herd with Colin Cowherd and Dual Threat with Ryen Russillo.
Under Tony Dungy, Dilfer had his best NFL season in 1997 with Tampa Bay. He threw 21 touchdown passes, made the Pro Bowl, and led the Bucs to a playoff win over Detroit.
