Tyler Snead Caught 19 Passes on Saturday For East Carolina
Although the East Carolina football team only has three wins this season, they’re a helluva good watch. In back-to-back weeks, they have taken nationally-ranked teams to the brink, losing 46-43 to No. 17 Cincinnati in Week 10 and 59-51 to No. 25 SMU in Week 11.
In their loss to SMU, the Pirates offense was humming. They outgained SMU 644 to 636 and averaged 11.9 yards per pass attempt. Lefty quarterback Holton Ahlers was the steady hand of the onslaught, throwing six touchdown passes, but his group of receivers was always there to help him out — specifically freshman wideout Tyler Snead.
Snead caught 19 passes against the Mustangs for 240 yards and three scores. His reception total nearly matched his work from ECU’s first nine games combined (24 catches), and his touchdown total outdid his previous work (two before Week 11).
From a national perspective, no receiver in FBS has caught more balls in one game this season. The previous high, per ESPN, was from Western Kentucky’s Lucky Jackson, who caught 16 passes in one game earlier this season.
