Unless Drake Uncovers Some Pusha T Skeletons, He’ll Take A Hard L in Rap Battle
After Drake dropped his “Duppy Freestyle”¹ in response to Pusha T’s initial diss, I thought he would be coming home with a W in the Pusha T-Drake beef. Yet, after listening to Pusha’s response, “The Story of Adidon”, it’s clear that Drizzy has to do a whole lot in order to score the win.
Push went after Drake’s parents, his best friend, and, of course, Aubrey Graham. The harshest of rhymes coming in reference to Drake’s supposed (but pretty much confirmed) child with adult-film actress Sophie Brussaux.
“You are hiding a child, let that boy come home
Deadbeat mothafucka playin’ border patrol, ooh
Adonis is your son
And he deserves more than an Adidas press run, that’s real”
-Pusha T on “The Story of Adidon”
Plus, the image that Pusha T — real name Terrence Thornton — attached to the song was as damning as anything; a young Drake donning full blackface. It was later revealed that David Leyes took the picture and had it on his website. After the wreckage, though, Leyes removed the photo off his website.
The best part of all this is that Pusha T unearthed a whole lot of stuff the public didn’t know about Drake — it was new information. If Drake comes back with more of the same from “Duppy”, it will fall flat with the entire rap-world watching. He’ll need to get his investigative reporter skills on and find stuff — like Pusha T did — that we didn’t know about.
Or, here’s an idea: get Adonis’ actual voice on the opening of the new response track? Maybe that’s too much…
Either way, Pusha T doesn’t even expect a response and has already assumed the W in the Drake beef.
¹The term freestyle has been lost in translation these days. To me, a freestyle means a verse completely off the head…”Duppy Freestyle” was not that, as well as most other fill-in-the-blank freestyles that are released as singles.
