Upcoming Documentary Will Go Deep on Tom Brady Stolen Jersey Saga
Tom Brady left Super Bowl XLIX with his third Super Bowl MVP trophy, this coming after he led the New England Patriots to a thrilling 28-24 victory of Seattle. What he didn’t leave with is his game jersey…because it went missing after the victory.
The win was Brady’s fourth in the big game, and although he’s added two more, this is the one that sticks out to most to me. There was the infamous (and highly scrutinized) call at the goaline by Pete Carroll that led to Malcolm Butler‘s shining moment, and then the jersey — well, missing jersey. It was getting as much press as the actual game in the days after the game, and now FOX is bringing it to the screen to tell the story in full.
The Great Brady Heist will air on FOX on February 1st, 2020 at 7:00 P.M ET, right in time for this year’s big game, Super Bowl LIV, which is the next night on FOX. According to the official Fox Sports press release, the film is produced by NFL Films in association with Religion of Sports, a sports content company co-founded by Brady, fellow NFL legend Michael Strahan, and current COO Gotham Chopra.
After the Super Bowl LI broadcast on FOX, the company’s extensive camera coverage played a key role in the investigation, and FOX Sports NFL Insider, Jay Glazer subsequently broke an early exclusive follow-up story on FS1, laying the path for the film.
“Just when you think you’ve seen it all in the sports world, a story like this comes around,” said Ross Ketover, Chief Executive, NFL Films. “Anyone who thinks they know what happened that day will discover more jaw-dropping details than they could have imagined. ‘The Great Brady Heist’ is one of the most unique projects NFL Films has ever produced. We couldn’t be more pleased to partner with FOX and Religion of Sports on such an engaging film.”

Tom Brady‘s missing jersey turned out to be Tom Brady’s stolen jersey, and, according to the press release and trailer, the upcoming film will feature the first-ever on-camera sit-down with the gentleman to did the deed, as well as “exclusive conversations” with Brady himself.
The 54-minute film will be the sixth in Fox Sports’ Emmy-winning MAGNIFY documentary series.
Gotham Chopra, the son of Deepak Chopra, is a well-respected documentarian with an impressive resume in the sports world. He has an ESPN 30 for 30 under his belt, directing The Little Master, and he’s also served as director/producer for two feature Showtime documentaries, Kobe Bryant’s Muse and I Am Giant, as well as Tom Brady’s Facebook Watch docuseries, Tom vs. Time.
As usual, Brady and the Patriots are in the postseason this year, albeit without the first-round bye, so there’s a chance this Brady-led film could lead into another Brady-led Super Bowl.
