UVA: Bryce Perkins Could Face Old Team in Sun Bowl
Virginia quarterback Bryce Perkins will face his old team in the Sun Bowl if ESPN’s bowl projections ring true.
Though he never played a down for the Arizona State football team, Bryce Perkins is from Arizona and spent two years as a member of the Sun Devils. His father, Bruce, was also a fullback at ASU in the late-1980s before a brief stint in the NFL. So if ESPN’s latest bowl projections ring true, the current Virginia star will be having a homecoming of sorts as the Wahoos are picked to play against Arizona State in the Sun Bowl on New Year’s Eve.
Two different college football analysts, Kyle Bonagura and Mitch Sherman, are in charge of ESPN’s bowl projections and while they disagree on most games, the Sun Bowl is one of the few they have exactly the same.
The Sun Bowl is to be played at Sun Bowl Stadium in El Paso, Texas at 2:00 P.M ET on CBS. It would be Virginia’s first time playing in the 83-year-old event, while Arizona State has played in the game six times already.
Perkins, who played high school football in Arizona, followed by two years at Arizona State and one year at Arizona Western Community College in 2017, has had a breakout season for the Hoos this year. After finishing 7-5, Perkins was selected to the 2018 All-ACC team as an honorable mention.
In 2015, he redshirted for Arizona State then missed 2016 with an injury before transferring.
