Virginia Baseball Earns First ACC Series Win

After struggling for much of the season, the UVA baseball team turned it on against one of the nation’s best teams. The Wahoos beat No. 6 Georgia Tech twice in their three-game road series, exploding for 24 runs on offense. Prior to their series against GT, they were averaging just 8.2 runs per conference series with a 13 being the most for one single ACC series. Devin Ortiz homered in Virginia’s series-clinching 11-4 win on Saturday (below) and he’s now reached base and scored a run in seven consecutive games. Fan-favorite Stephen Schoch picked up his fifth save of the season on Saturday.

Liberty Baseball Falls Back to Earth

The Flames baseball team won 13 games in a row to start the month of March, including two wins over North Carolina, three on the road against UCF, and one against UVA. The streak ended on March 27th with an 8-7 loss to Bellarmine, and they’ve gone 2-2 since. The Flames pick back up at home against Wake Forest on Wednesday, April 7th.

Ty Jerome Ties Career-High in Minutes Played

UVA legend and current Thunder guard Ty Jerome tied a career-high 30 minutes played on Monday, March 29 in a 127-106 loss to Dallas. Jerome filled the stat sheet with 11 points, five assists, three rebounds, and two steals. He went 3-for-5 from the field, including 2-of-3 from deep, and 3-of-4 from the charity stripe.

Former Hampton Star Davion Warren Finds a Home at Memphis

After leading the Big South in scoring this year with Hampton, Davion Warren is headed to the big time. Warren announced on his Twitter account he’d be joining Penny Hardaway’s Memphis Tigers program. The Tigers, who had several players enter the portal themselves, are fresh off winning the 2021 NIT.

Luke Loewe Headed to the Big 10

The William & Mary basketball program wasn’t great this year, but Luke Loewe was definitely a bright spot. So much that after entering the transfer portal once the season concluded, he was scooped up by a Big 10 program. Loewe posted to his social media accounts that he’d signed to play his final season for the Minnesota Golden Gophers. In ’20-21, he was an all-conference selection and the Tribe’s leading scorer.

Longwood Inks Two Big-Time Transfers

The Lancers got two players from the transfer portal who should be major contributors right away: Isaiah Wilkins (from Wake Forest) and Michael Christmas (from James Madison). Wilkins has 83 games in an ACC uniform under his belt (split between Va Tech and Wake) so his game should transfer well to the Big South.
