Manny Alonso Earns ACC Honors For Clutch Performance vs. Miami
Virginia co-captain Mandy Alonso busted a two-week drought on the ACC honor roll by being named the Defensive Lineman of the Week for Week 5. Alonso, a Miami native, helped an improved UVA defense beat Miami 30-28 on the road. He collected two sacks and three tackles for loss, one of which resulted in a safety. Alonso was also on the field for the final missed field goal by Miami that secured a win for the Wahoos.
“It was a rollercoaster of emotions,” Alonso said in his postgame presser. “I love seeing my family in the stands, and all my friends. Even some of them are Miami fans but when I come down here they put on a UVA shirt or a No. 91 shirt.”
Alonso now has three sacks on the year, a career-best.
In addition to the weekly ACC honors, Alonso was picked to break the ceremonial rock by head coach Bronco Mendenhall after the victory.
