JMU Basketball Star Matt Lewis Named USBWA Player of the Week
Already the CAA Player of the Week, James Madison senior Matt Lewis earned another award on Tuesday when he was honored by the USBWA as the Oscar Robertson National Player of the Week. He’s the only JMU basketball player to ever earn the honor and the first CAA player since Hofstra’s Justin Wright-Foreman in 2018.
Lewis’s accolades are rolling in due to his monster performance on Saturday against Towson. Lewis, the leading scorer in the CAA, hit a school-record nine three-pointers on the way to 30 points. He now has hit a three-pointer in 47 straight games. JMU won the game (which was their conference opener) by an 81-72 final score.
In 1o games this year, Lewis has had games with 27, 28, 29, and 30 points.
The Dukes (6-4, 1-0) will be back in action this weekend against Northeastern. They’ll play noon games on both Saturday and Sunday.
In the press release from JMU, they called the honor from USBWA the “most prestigious award yet” for Matt Lewis.
