Richmond Basketball Program Upset at Home By La Salle
Last season, the Richmond basketball team blew out La Salle twice. In two games they won by an average of 22.5 points per game. On Saturday, they faced off again and even Vegas thought it’d be a similar result; the boys in the desert had the Spiders as 14.5-point favorites at home. What no one counted on was La Salle hitting every shot insight, and the Spiders failing to return the favor.
La Salle, who came in ranked No. 179 in the country, beat No. 51 Richmond 84-78 at The Robins Center in Richmond, VA.
The Explorers shot 57.1 percent from the field and 52.9 percent from beyond the arc. Richmond, on the other hand, only shot 41.1 percent from the field and 32 percent from deep. All but two of Richmond’s 78 points came from their starting unit, led by 22 from Grant Golden and 21 from Blake Francis.
Richmond fell to 9-4 overall and 3-2 in conference play. They’ll get back to work on Tuesday against the A-10’s only team* without a conference victory, Saint Joseph’s (1-12, 0-7).
*Saint Louis hasn’t played a conference game yet.
