UVA Fanbase in Shambles After COVID Positive Derails ACC Tournament Title Hopes (and Maybe More)

Hopes of another ACC Tournament title were cut off at the knees just a few minutes ago when news of a positive COVID-19 test inside the UVA program broke. They will forfeit their semifinal game vs. Georgia Tech tonight and it seriously puts their NCAA Tournament hopes into jeopardy.

“Players must have seven straight days of negative tests to compete in the NCAA Tournament,” Sports Illustrated writer Pat Forde wrote on Twitter after the UVA news broke. “We’ll see what this does to Virginia regarding next week.”

Virginia was set to play the Yellow Jackets after an epic 72-69 win in the quarterfinals over Syracuse. It is the second ACC Tournament game the league has had to cancel; Duke had a positive test revealed yesterday, leading to the cancellation of the Florida State-Duke game. Duke, who likely needed more wins to even get into the NCAA Tournament conversation, pulled the plug on their season not long after.

As you’d expect, UVA Twitter is heartbroken by the news and letting the memes fly.

I guess…keep your fingers crossed that they won’t pull the plug on the season and that everyone inside the program is alright. I’m just as dead inside right now as everyone else.
