Value Galore in NBA Rookie of the Year Betting Odds

Now that we’ve been able to see the new NBA rookie class play a little in the league’s annual summer league, we have a tiny glimpse into how they’ll perform during the upcoming regular season. Zion Williamson, of course, is the talk of the class but say he doesn’t kill it, there’s some real money to be made. By that, I mean with the NBA Rookie of the Year Award betting odds; Zion is the favorite, as he should be, but if something happens where he’s limited to half the season or his game doesn’t translate, bettors can make it rain with the odds being offered.

If there’s someone who can make a real impact as a starter/contributor on a contender or playoff team, they can steal the award. Remember back in ’16-’17 when Joel Embiid averaged 20.2 points per game but only played 31 games? Malcolm Brogdon took home the hardware — averaging just 10.2 points per game — because he played 75 games for a playoff team. Have a look at this year’s odds!

2019-20 NBA Rookie of the Year Odds

Picks I like (not named Zion)…

  • Darius Garland: This guy is ready for the NBA, flat out, and on a team as bad as Cleveland, he could win by putting up monstrous numbers.
  • DeAndre Hunter: Expect the Hawks to take a big leap this year, with Hunter being a big part of that leap. He’s ready to be a major factor defensively and his offensive game is evolved enough to put up 10-12 points per game.
  • Tyler Herro: My favorite pick…the Heat are trying to load up this offseason for a playoff push. Herro can potentially be a starter on that team and contribute enough to be in the conversation. At +6500, it’s worth throwing a few bucks down.
