VCU Bounces Back With 84-77 Win Over George Washington

The VCU Rams basketball team shook off their loss against Rhode Island this past Saturday to beat George Washington 84-77 in a Wednesday afternoon matinee at the Charles E. Smith Center. Nah’Shon Hyland led the team with 17 points, followed by Vince Williams Jr. (12), Hason Ward (11), and Jamir Watkins (10). Hyland also had six of VCU’s 17 steals, while Ward blocked four shots.

VCU led 41-35 at halftime then used a 19-8 run to start the second half to go up 60-43, their biggest lead of the game. Though the Rams didn’t shoot well from deep (26.7 percent) they put GW on their heels in transition and finished 27-for-43 (62.7 percent) from inside the arc.

Watkins had the play of the game late in the second half, posterizing a Colonials defender off a beautiful look by Adrian Baldwin Jr.

Going into the game, VCU was ranked #59 by KenPom while GW was back at #203.

VCU improved to 10-3 with the win and 3-1 in Atlantic-10 play. Their next scheduled game was supposed to be this weekend against city rival Richmond but it was postponed due to COVID-19 concerns within the Spiders’ program.
