Virginia Football: ESPN’s FPI Gives Hoos Slim Odds to Win ACC Coastal
ESPN’s Football Power Index has the Virginia football program with slim odds to win the ACC Coastal division.
I’m not sure where they were before Friday night but I’d imagine the Virginia football program had the best odds to win the ACC Coastal. Unfortunately, after losing to Pittsburgh under the lights at Scott Stadium, the Wahoos now have a slim chance to win their division. According to ESPN’s Football Power Index (or FPI), the Hoos have a 13-percent chance to win the ACC Coastal. On the flip side, Pittsburgh shot up to the top of the board with a division-leading 47-percent chance.
Pitt is now the favorite to win the #ACC Coastal, with a 47% chance, per FPI | #VaTech 18%, #UVA 13%, #TheU 13%, #GaTech 9%

Seth Walder, an analytics reporter for ESPN, released the numbers earlier today. After Pittsburgh, the Hokies are No. 2 with an 18-percent chance. From there, Virginia is tied for No. 3 with Miami at 13-percent and Georgia Tech is the final team listed with a nine-percent chance.
Ironically, the Hoos (6-3, 4-2 ACC) are ahead of the Hokies (4-4, 3-2 ACC) in the standings right now. Virginia Tech, on the other hand, does have three ACC games remaining compared to UVA’s two.

The next few weeks will be really fun to watch because all the teams fighting for the ACC Coastal crown will be playing one another left and right. One thing is for sure, the annual Commonwealth Cup game between Virginia and Virginia Tech is going to be awesome and extremely meaningful.
As for this week, Virginia will host a non-conference game against Liberty before heading to Georgia Tech and Virginia Tech to finish the season.
Pittsburgh will host Virginia Tech this Saturday while Miami travels north to Georgia Tech.
