Virginia Tech Starter Ty Outlaw Charged With Weed Possession
Ty Outlaw, a starter on the Virginia Tech basketball team, has been charged with marijuana possession, an offense that, according to the Associated Press, risks “jeopardizing his status for the remainder of the NCAA Tournament.”
The Hokies are in the Sweet 16 of the NCAA Tournament. They’ll play Duke at Capital One Arena on Friday night.
The sixth-year senior was charged March 21, the day after he and the Hokies arrived in San Jose, California, for the first round of the NCAA tournament, according to records on the Virginia Courts Case Information web site. His hearing is set for April 11.

According to the report, the warrant was issued on March 25th and served on the 26th.
Outlaw is shooting an astounding 45.6 percent from three this season, making 78 of his 171 attempts. Additionally, he’s started 14 games in a row for the Hokies, including all their ACC Tournament and NCAA Tournament games.
In Virginia Tech’s most recent victory, a 67-58 triumph in the Round of 32, Outlaw posted a double-double, collecting 10 points and 11 rebounds. Since the regular season ended, the 6-foot-6 forward has shot 60 percent from deep.
