WATCH: George Mason Welcomes Kim English With Moving Hype Video

After six years of Dave Paulsen, the George Mason basketball program went in a different direction by hiring Kim English as its new head coach. English, a former NBA player, looks to be a solid move for a program in need of a rebrand/rebuild. He has high-major cache, having played at Mizzou and been an assistant at Colorado and Tennessee, so he knows what things are supposed to look like at a place where basketball is a priority. He’s also from the DMV area and well-equipped to lead a program in the social media era; English has 50k-plus followers on Twitter and the news of his hiring set ablaze a little “DMV lovefest,” as Giant Killer’s Bryan Lawrence put it. Bottom line: Mason needs fan support and this kind of stuff goes a long way.
Adding to the excitement was a moving, well-produced hype video on the official Mason Instagram page. The video, which is narrated by Patriots legend Folarin Campbell, welcomed the new coach and ran through a bit of program history.
“This gave me chills,” one commenter wrote.
