WATCH: Padres Jorge Ona Homers For 1st MLB Hit
The San Diego Padres have done a tremendous job grooming new talent, and Jorge Ona is the latest fresh face to turn heads at the MLB level. Ona turned on a hanging breaking ball Thursday night, sending the pitch into the upper deck for his first MLB dinger. The dinger, which was also his first MLB hit, traveled 414 feet!

When you look at this guy, you can tell immediately he can rake. At Double-A Amarillo last year the big guy blasted five homers in 25 games, finishing with a .957 OPS. And don’t let the big body fool you, he can move around better than you’d think. He stole 10 bases in 232 minor league games — not crazy or anything but he’s big boy, that’s pretty impressive.
San Diego wound up winning the game as well, beating NL West rival San Francisco 6-1. Manny Machado hit his 13th dinger in the game and Padres’ pitchers combined for 14 strikeouts. The Padres are now 29-17 on the season while San Francisco fell to 23-22.
