DC Spinoff: We’re Getting Subjected to More Jared Leto as The Joker
If you liked Suicide Squad and left craving a whole hell of a lot more of Jared Leto’s Joker, what in the hell is wrong with you?
That weird subsection of the world is in luck because DC (for some reason) has green-lit a new standalone Joker movie with Jared Leto’s peculiar rendition of the classic character.

When people complain about the overwhelming number of superhero film, I generally dismiss it because I enjoy most of them.
This has wavered my opinion on the matter slightly because Suicide Squad was garbage and it’s hard to fathom that DC would want to continue any aspect of that subsection of the universe.
A little about me: Batman the Animated Series was one of my absolute favorite shows growing up, and a huge reason for that was Mark Hamill’s portrayal of the Joker. My love of the Joker increased with each rendition that I saw after. From Cesar Romero to Jack Nicholson to Heath Ledger, each version added a new, intriguing layer to the puzzle.
The Jared Leto came into the picture and just did unspeakably bad things to a character I loved.
My disdain for all things Jared Leto has occurred so quickly and aggressively that it’s hard to believe I ever liked him in the first place.
But that isn’t the case.
I was first introduced to Jared in 2005 when I first heard 30 Seconds to Mars’ “From Yesterday,” and found myself really enjoying that song. I had it burned onto a CD (along with all the other angsty shit I was listening to at 15) and listened to it for months before I finally moved onto something else.
At that point, I thought that band was going to be huge in my life.
A year later I first watched Requiem for a Dream, Darren Aronofsky’s intense rumination on drug abuse, and it had an effect on me that very few films ever have. One of the main reasons for the considerable impact was the jarring performance of Jared Leto. At that point, I knew he would be a star.
Unfortunately, it would seem I was right.
He’s began trying to fill in the method acting void since the greats have begun to fade away, and he comes across as such a try-hard asshole that it makes my skin crawl.
He tried to make a name for himself as The Joker on the Suicide Squad set by being a massive dickhead, and what did we get from that? A glorified cameo. He had all his scenes cut, and the ones we did get were pretty putrid.
When Daniel Day-Lewis is an asshole on set, people suck it up because they know he’s going to give them an all-time performance.
Jared Leto hasn’t shown those skills since Dallas Buyer’s Club in 2013, and really, that was a one-off in the middle of forgettable performances.
I have a theory that he wants to be known as a method actor more so than he wants to be one, and that makes me rage even harder because I think Jared Leto is a talented guy and has shown that a few times.
I would say that I want to kick his ass, but that’s already been done.
There’s a place for the skill set of someone like Jared Leto if he could get over his nonsense and start focusing more on the acting than all the other bullshit.
If you want a Joker movie without having to deal with the Jared Leto problem, there’s always the rumored Todd Phillips movie starring Joaquin Phoenix, which sounds like a wonderfully odd pairing.
