White Sox Acquire Jarrod Dyson For Stretch Run

The Chicago White Sox have emerged as one of the most exciting baseball teams to watch and it’s clear they have a bright future. They’re like the Padres of the AL. With a nifty trade on Friday, they took their excitement level to a new level.

Jarrod Dyson is the newest White Sox outfielder, having been traded by the Pittsburgh Pirates for international bonus pool money. The move definitely proves the ChiSox are getting ready for those important games down the stretch and in the postseason.

Dyson, one of baseball’s best speedsters, was huge for the 2015 World Series champion Kansas City Royals (3 SB in playoffs and scored the go-ahead run in 12th inning of the series-clinching game) and is first among active players in stolen base percentage (85.24 percent).

Overall, Dyson’s 254 stolen bases are seventh among active players.

This year, the former 50th-round pick has only hit .157 with Pittsburgh, but he does have four stolen bases and is coming off a 30-SB season with Arizona last year. In 879 career games, he’s hit .245 with 133 extra-base hits and a .317 on-base percentage.

In corresponding moves, Chicago DFA’d Nicky Delmonico and optioned OF Luis González to the alternate training site.

There will be a time down the stretch where Jarrod Dyson shines in a White Sox uniform, I can almost guarantee it. He’s so hard to get out on the base paths and he’s familiar with any situation. This is a great move by the ChiSox.
