WUSA9: 18 Days is the Best New True-Crime Podcast Investigation Out Right Now

WUSA9 — the Washington, D.C. CBS affiliate — has released the first two episodes of their in-depth true-crime podcast investigation, 18 Days: The Relisha Rudd Investigation.

The podcast, which is narrated and written by WUSA9 Anchor Jan Jeffcoat and produced by Dori Olmos, navigates through the disappearance of eight-year-old Relisha Rudd in February/March of 2014.

So far, they’ve released the episodes about two weeks apart and now, No. 3isĀ  listed as “coming soon”. There is no indication of how long the podcast will run but let me tell you, the story is truly fascinating and leaves you wanting more.

Now, I don’t want to give away any spoilers here, but I’ll give you the jist of what’s going on.

The title, 18 Days, comes from the time it took between Relisha Rudd’s last known appearance and when police actually found out a child was missing. Rudd, who had been living with her mom at a D.C. homeless shelter, was consistantly missing school because she was “sick” and under the care of “Dr. Tatum”. However, when the school began to worry, they discovered that “Dr. Tatum” was actually a 51-year-old janitor from the shelter and Relisha Rudd was nowhere to be found. Her mother, Shamika Young, had not reported her missing and in the coming days, hotel surveillance footage was released to the public showing “Dr. Tatum” and Relisha in a Washington, D.C. hotel.

It’s super tempting to Google the story and find out more, but because the episodes are so good, I’m going to wait for them to tell me.
