Although Alex Ovechkin was selected as a captain for the 2019 NHL All-Star Game, he won’t be playing because his “body needs a rest.” Fans of the Caps shouldn’t worry too much, though, because two other players — Braden Holtby and John Carlson — will make the trip to San Jose for the late-January festivities. It will be Carlson’s first-ever trip to an All-Star game.

Unfortunately, Ovi will have to sit out one game due to his decision, according to ESPN.

Auston Matthews (Atlantic), Connor McDavid (Pacific), and Nathan MacKinnon (Central) were the other captain selections.

The NHL’s All-Star Game will be played on January 26th, with legendary announcer Mike Tirico calling the game for NBC.

One spot in each division is still up for grabs via fan vote. Voting opens up this Thursday and runs until January 10th.

You can check out the rosters below, along with the number of All-Star appearances they have.
