Cowherd on Dwayne Haskins: “Move Up to Grab Him”

In Urban Meyer’s final game at Ohio State, the Buckeyes handled the Washington Huskies (even though the score, 28-23, doesn’t really indicate as much). Additionally, it’s believed that the 2019 Rose Bowl will also be the final game at Ohio State for their quarterback, Dwayne Haskins. Though he doesn’t have a first-round grade, according to Todd McShay, Dwayne Haskins looks to be the first QB drafted into the NFL this spring. Justin Herbert would have been the first but he decided to return to Oregon for another season.

It’s still up in the air as to where he’ll get drafted, though. A few weeks ago, McShay had him going in the Top 10 to the New York Giants, yet that was before the Herbert news. To some, like Fox Sports host Colin Cowherd, Haskins is good enough to be the top pick. After Haskins went 25-for-37 with three touchdown passes in the Rose Bowl, Cowherd sang his praises on Twitter, imploring quarterback-needy teams to “move up to grab him.”

Per Colin Cowherd:

“Said it in the show today @FS1 don’t get how QB Dwayne Haskins doesn’t go number one. Big. Accurate. Never locks in. Mobile enough. Nice touch. Game looks EASY for him. 7/8 NFL teams need a QB. You HAVE TO move up to grab him.”

I don’t think Cowherd is crazy on this one, and his nemesis — Baker Mayfield — is a good example of how much the “eye test” should be considered in drafts. Haskins, unquestionably, passes such a test and young quarterbacks, regardless of their draft position, have played well in recent years.

NFL teams in need of a QB should move up for Haskins; he was coached well, has the body, and the rest of the class isn’t all that impressive.
