2020 ACC Football: 10 Incoming Transfers to Watch
The ACC football season is kicking off tonight with UAB at Miami. Then, this Saturday brings a six-game ACC slate (including four conference games). College football will be very different this year but let’s be thankful for it and hopeful everyone stays healthy. Below, there’s 10 new faces to keep your eye on this season who are transferring into the ACC from other programs.
D’Eriq King, QB (Houston to Miami)
Probably the highest-profile incoming transfer to the ACC, King put up 50 touchdowns in 2018 (36 passing, 14 rushing) before bailing hard in 2019 after the Cougs started 1-3. If he had a better o-line and more weapons, Miami would be projected as a top-three team; most places have them in the 6-9 range of the 15-team league.
Phil Jurkovec, QB (Notre Dame to Boston College)
Dude has an absolute rocket of an arm. Touted as “the best BC quarterback since Matt Ryan.”
Chase Brice, QB (Clemson to Duke)
Brice already got himself a ring as a backup at Clemson in 2018 (he threw five touchdowns) but with no chance to beat out Trevor Lawrence, he’s going to take over his own team. Opener at Notre Dame should tell a lot about how their season will go.
Keytaon Thompson, QB (Mississippi State to Virginia)
He won’t be the starter right away (that’s Brennan Armstrong) but expect Thompson to get mixed in there. Never forget he beat (and outplayed) Lamar Jackson in a bowl game.
Khalil Herbert, RB (Kansas to Virginia Tech)
The likely No. 1 back at Tech now, Herbert had his exit from Kansas play out nationally on ESPN+. It was a shock to see the leading rusher hit the road but he saw the writing on the wall and saved his final season.
Raheem Blackshear, RB (Rutgers to Virginia Tech)
Blackshear was the guy in Jersey for a while but he was obviously tired of getting throttled and having the box stacked every play. Above-average pass-catcher out of the backfield. Will be the 2 in the 1-2 punch of Herbert/Blackshear.
Jashaun Corbin, RB (Texas A&M to Florida State)
Averaged 5.0 yards per carry in 14 games with the Aggies. A Florida native, he announced he was “coming home” to FSU right before the new year. Listed as the co-starter at running back.
Lucas Krull, TE (Florida to Pittsburgh)
Pitt head coach Pat Narduzzi expects Krull to “have a big impact” in 2020.
Quincy Roche, DE (Temple to Miami)
Reigning AAC Defensive Player of the Year (with Temple) after racking up 13 sacks.
Grayson Atkins, K (Furman to North Carolina)
Earned FCS All-American honors in 2019. Converted 61 of 65 kicking attempts last season (13-for-15 FG; 48-for-50 PAT).
