St(art)ups: Alicia Keys, Swizz Beatz Helping Young Artists With Seed Money

Alicia Keys and Swizz Beatz, who have been married since 2010, have teamed up to offer young artists a chance for some shine. The program, titled “The Dean Collection St(art)ups”, will give 20 artists $5,000 each to put on their very own art show. The best part? All sales at the show will go directly to the artist. The Dean Collection “is a contemporary, family art collection focused on the support of living artists”.

From the official website of The Dean Collection:

“We want to hear about it. Any medium. Any theme. We understand the struggle of the artist, and want to give you $5,000 to make it happen.”

In order to apply, applicants will need to send in some pieces of work and lay out a plan as to how the money will help their show. It is open to artists from all around the world.

Keys and Swizz join a growing number of notable celebrities using their platforms for the betterment of the world. For instance, there’s Kevin Love and DeMar DeRozan advocating for mental health with the NBA, Asher Roth’s new “Trash Club” initiative, and on his new KOD album, J. Cole’s took a legitimate stand against addiction. The best part is that there are tons of others taking a stand that I didn’t mention.
