Dolphins Allen Hurns Scores First TD Since Gruesome Leg Injury

Miami Dolphins wide receiver Allen Hurns scored his first touchdown of the season on Monday, doing so in style with several broken tackles and in front of a national television audience on ESPN. The touchdown was Hurns’ first since a gruesome leg injury in the postseason last year while playing for the Dallas Cowboys.

If you’re not rooting for Allen Hurns, something is wrong with you. Not only did he break his fibula and dislocate his ankle on national television, but he was then asked to take a pay cut by Dallas days before this season’s training camp, leading to his release after he declined the new terms. Then this year, Josh Rosen absolutely hung him out to dry against his old team, leading to a concussion.

The Miami Dolphins had signed him a few days after his release from the Cowboys. Hurns grew up in Miami and played four seasons for the Miami Hurricanes.

Hurns, who made $6 million with Dallas in 2018, is making $2.5 million with Miami this year.

With the Dolphins, Hurns has developed a nice connection with Ryan Fitzpatrick. Since Fitzpatrick regained the starting job in the second half of their Week 6 game against Washington, he’s relied on Hurns a lot as a possession receiver. In five quarters, the pair have hooked up five times for 69 yards with zero incompletions.

Fitz was also the quarterback who tossed the 12-yard touchdown to Hurns that you see above.

Besides hanging him out to dry in Week 3, Josh Rosen — who Fitzpatrick replaced — only hooked up with Hurns for two completions this season.
